Politician visits BMAT STEM Academy
Posted: 29th November 2019Our devoted STEM school has received praise from a visiting politician.
Robert Halfon, Harlow’s most recent MP, took a tour of BMAT STEM Academy and met with students studying engineering, computer science and statistics.
He said: “What BMAT is doing in Harlow is incredible. I have seen it in action in several BMAT schools.
“The Trust has made massive changes to this school and it has already seen incredible results.
“I have met genuinely clever students. What is going on here is great; it’s wonderful.
“Well done to BMAT.”
The business focused school opened in September 2018 for students in Year 10 and above with an interest in STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths – subjects.
The school has close links with sponsors, including GlaxoSmithKline, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Raytheon, Gratnells and Pearson, which give students opportunities to gain experience in the world of work.
Headteacher Dustin Schuyler said: “Anytime we have someone to visit the school is positive as it all helps to get the word out there about what we are doing at BMAT STEM.
“Because of the changes to the school since BMAT took it over, we have seen significant improvements to the teaching and the building we provide. It is always nice to have that recognised by our visitors.”
